BUTWAL, Jan 6: A shutdown called to protest the killing of local businessman crippled life in Rupandehi district today. 


Basanta Poudel alias Balu, a businessman of Devdaha municipality-5 of the district was shot dead by an unidentified group on Friday.

The shutdown was called by the Youth Association Nepal, the youth wing of the CPN (UML), to protest the murder of its activist. 


Vehicles plying on the Butwal section of the East-West highway and the Siddhartha highway did not operate today due to the shutdown. Industries, businesses, market were closed due to the shutdown. However, no untoward incidents were reported in course of the shutdown, according to police. 

The Youth Association Nepal organised the shutdown calling for bringing the culprits to book promptly, the Association president Nahakul Shahi said. 


Similarly, various business and trade organisations based in Rupandehi district have protested Poudel's killing, demanding immediate action against the culprits. Poudel was an UML worker.
