KATHMANDU, May 9: The ruling CPN-UML has issued a whip to all lawmakers belonging to the party to cast their votes in favor of Prime Minister and party’s parliamentary leader KP Sharma Oli.

The decision of the party to issue whip comes a day before Oli is seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR). There are concerns within the party that lawmakers close to the rival faction led by Madhav Kumar Nepal may cross the floor during the voting scheduled for Monday.

Talking to Republica over the phone, Chief Whip of the party, Bishal Bhattarai said the lawmakers are asked to mandatorily attend the special session of parliament and vote in favor of Prime Minister Oli. “The whip was issued as per the Political Party Act-2017 and UML’s Parliamentary Party Statue-2021,” Bhattarai added.
