KATHMANDU, Oct 7: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is holding a meeting of its party secretariat today.
The meeting will be held at the party headquarters in Dhumbarahi. The meeting is taking place amid growing mistrust among the top leadership of the NCP, particularly between the two chairpersons and senior party leader Madhav Kumar Nepal. It is learnt that the senior leader is dissatisfied especially with the two chairpersons’ decision to nominate 28 office bearers at the party’s provincial committees while terming it ‘unilateral’.
NCP's Secretariat meeting called for Friday afternoon
The intra-party rift became visible after senior leader Nepal lashed out at the Oli-led government in the Parliament last week and the ‘Nepal faction’ of the NCP convened its separate meeting when the two chairs were out of the country.
Senior leader Nepal has also raised question over the performance of the government saying that recent activities of the government have tarnished the party’s image.
Meanwhile, the NCP’s secretariat meeting will be holding the discussion on finalizing the much-delayed unification process of the party at the provincial and district levels in a bid to avoid the unhealthy competition among the local party leaders for grabbing the leadership.
Addressing a function in Kathmandu on Saturday, NCP Chairman Dahal had indicated that the Sunday’s party secretariat meeting would take some crucial decisions over finalizing the party’s unification process at the provincial and district levels. Dahal also said that there has been ‘unnecessary exaggeration’ over the performance of the Oli-led government from multiple quarters though the government was doing its best to serve the national interests.
