KATHMANDU, Dec 5: The District Court, Rukum West, has slapped life imprisonment against 23 individuals accused of being involved in the infamous Rukum incident of May 2020.

Issuing its verdict on Tuesday, the district court gave its decision to send 23 out of 34 accused in the Soti incident of Rukum West, to life imprisonment. A single bench of District Judge Khadga Bahadur KC issued the verdict.


Nabaraj BK, a 19 year old from the Dalit Community and a group of his friends from Jajarkot district, were killed in an incident that took place three and a half years ago. They were beaten to death while they traveled to Soti in Chaurjahari Municipality of Rukum West district to bring Nawaraj’s girlfriend as his bride back to their home district. They were chased, attacked with weapons, stones and forced to jump into the Bheri River.
