KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has drawn the attention of the government towards the Mahakali incident in which Nepali children were injured as a result of unilateral construction made by India side along the river.

RSP General Secretary Dr Mukul Dhakal, who is also the spokesperson of the newly-formed party, in a statement drew the attention of all stakeholders including the government regarding unauthorized structures being built unilaterally by India on the Mahakali river. The unilateral construction on part of India has reportedly obstructed the flow of the Mahakali river.

Spokesperson Dr Dhakal in the statement maintained that India is building an unauthorized concrete structure by pushing the natural course of Mahakali River towards the Nepali side. Children playing on the Nepali side of the border were hit with stones that blasted off the construction site and were injured on three different occasions within a year.

The statement said that the acts such as changing the natural flow of the Mahakali river, building unauthorized structures on the river and its bank and blasting stones by the Indian side posing risk to the people across the river are disturbing, transgressive and reprehensible. The party also said that such acts only disturb the mutual harmony that exists among the people of the two countries.

While drawing the attention of the Government of India not to repeat such an act, the party has urged India to immediately halt all the unilateral construction activities and demolish all unauthorized structures built recently. The RSP has also urged the Government of Nepal to take diplomatic initiatives to protect the country’s international border and the life of Nepali nationals guaranteed by both bilateral and international treaties. The party also urged the government to provide treatment to those injured in these incidents and make appropriate security arrangements to provide guardianship to Nepali nationals living in the area.
