KATHMANDU, May 18: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)'s Ramesh Napit emerged victorious as the mayor of Shankharapur Municipality with 4,700 votes. His closest contender Laxmi Prasad (LP) Shrestha of CPN (Unified Socialist) got 4,202 votes, said Municipal Election Officer Sita Niraula.
Krishnalal Bajgain of CPN-UML received 3,622 votes while Madhu KC ‘Niraj’ of CPN (Maoist Center) got 2,222 in the mayoral race. Janata Samajwadi Party obtained only 92 votes.

Nepali Congress (NC) candidate for the post of deputy mayor, Samita Shrestha won the election securing 6,362 votes. Her closest contender Bijaya Kumari Waiba of RPP got 3,298 votes. NC and Samajwadi had teamed up in Shankharapur in the local elections.
