KATHMANDU, April 9: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is set to stage a demonstration in Kathmandu today against the republic system. The demonstration is scheduled to commence at 11:30 AM with a gathering at Bhrikutimandap, followed by a procession through various parts of the city.

Mohan Kumar Shrestha, RPP spokesperson and head of the publicity department, said that the RPP is going to hold a public demonstration centered on Kathmandu in order to pressurize the fulfillment of the 40-point demands submitted to the government.

These demands include the abolition of the republic system, reinstating the monarchy, ending secularism, and declaring Nepal as a Hindu nation.

Under the banner of 'Let's change the system to change the situation,' the demonstration will be led by RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden.

In anticipation of the event, Nepal Sanatan Dharmasanskrit Sangathan, an affiliate of the RPP, symbolically burnt an effigy of the Republic on Monday, marching from Bhrikutimandap to Gaushala.

Security has been tightened in Kathmandu as the participants in the demonstration may breach the ban.

About 6,000 policemen are on standby to manage the situation.

According to the information provided by the police, 20 vehicles full of RPP cadres and activists have entered Kathmandu from various parts of the country till Monday. Security officers estimate that some 10,000 people may join the demonstration, including some who are already present in Kathmandu.

Preparations have been made to mobilize Nepal Police in the first tier, armed police in the second tier and teams of special police in plain clothes in the third tier to prevent any untoward incident from happening during the demonstration.

Even if the RPP leaders break the prohibitory orders in a peaceful manner, the protest will not be peaceful if the orders are breached, so the police have been trying to determine the route of the demonstration. For that, some police officers are trying to coordinate with RPP leaders.
