KATHMANDU, March 31: Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) leader Kamal Thapa told the Constitutional Committee Tuesday morning that the country should go to referendum to decide on three issues of national importance: fate of monarchy, issue of secularism and structure of federalism.
While tabling RPP-N version of the constitution to the Constitutional Committee, Thapa said there should be a king as the symbol of cultural and national unity, and also as the constitutional head. The draft constitution has said Nepal should be a Hindu nation with full religious freedoms.
Referendum not possible even if gov't wants, says Dahal
Meanwhile, leader of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Pashupati Shumsher Rana told the committee that the lower house should elect a Westminster-style prime minister. Rana said the president should be the constitutional head.
Rana said the state restructuring should be done as per the recommendations of a state restructuring commission that comprises experts as members.
The RPP head also said the courts should not leave loopholes letting individual or party authoritarianism to happen.
