Right activists suspect woman was murdered after rape

RAJBIRAJ, Jan 4: Women rights activists have claimed that Kaushalya Bhattarai, who was found dead with her husband Damber five days ago, was raped before she was murdered.



The Bhattarai couple was found dead with slit throats at their home in Jandhaul VDC-9 of Saptari on Tuesday morning.[break]



Locals, who reached the incident site before the police, have told us Kaushalya´s body was in a half-naked state, the rights activists said. They have claimed that locals saw blood and water oozing out of the woman´s genial while she was being taken to a local hospital for autopsy.



“Accounts of the eye witnesses and the state of the dead body proves that the woman was raped before she was murdered,” said Usha Pokhrel, President of All Nepal Women´s Association (ANWA), Saptari.



Local woman rights activists have demand with the local authorities to make public the post mortem report of the deceased couple.



However, Area Police Office, Kanchanpur, has said that they have found no evidence that suggests the woman was raped. “We cannot say anything before the post mortem report comes,” said Police Inspector Rajendra Basnet.



Police have arrested a person, suspecting him of involving in the incident. His identity, however, has not been unveiled.
