Rhino dies after falling into swamp

CHITWAN, Dec 22: A rhino has died after falling into a swamp land. The incident took place in ward no. 24 of Bharatpur metropolis on Friday. The rhino had strayed away from the Chitwan National Park area to enter into human settlement near the community forest. 

The rhino chased local resident 62-year-old Singha Ghale and both fell into the marsh land from a hill top. The rhino has well as Ghale were injured in the fall. Ghale is undergoing treatment at the Alive Hospital and Trauma Centre in Bharatpur, according to the Area Police Office in Geetanagar. 

The injured rhino died during rescue, according to information officer of the Chitwan National Park Gopal Ghimire. The female rhino was around 10 years old. 

Twenty rhinos have died of natural reasons in almost six months of the current fiscal year. In the previous fiscal year 26 rhinos had suffered natural death.
