KATHMANDU, June 18: The International Relations and Labor Committee of Parliament on Friday directed the Ministry of Labour and Employment not to renew license of manpower agencies that have not submitted their transaction details to the government.
The committee has also instructed the ministry to cancel license of fraud manpower agencies that been taking huge amount of money from migrant workers in the name of service fees.
Although the government has already introduced a free-visa, free-ticket scheme, manpower agencies have been openly flouting this rule.
Lawmakers expressed surprise at the government’s helplessness in taking necessary action against wayward manpower agencies.
They also asked the concerned government bodies to ensure that remittance transactions are channeled through the banking system.
“Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labour and Employment and Nepal Rastra Bank should work together to ensure effective monitoring and regulation of companies involved in remittance business,” a statement issued by the committee reads.
The committee has asked the authority concerned to control illicit transaction of remittance through Hundi.
The committee has further directed the government to ensure that the families of migrant workers have a bank account to ensure remittance through banking system.
“Transaction through banking system not only reduces illicit transaction of money but also helps reduce number of fraud cases,” a committee members said.
