Revenue from Birgunj customs up 22%

BIRGUNJ, March 19: Birgunj Customs Office mobilized revenue of Rs 44.5 billion over the first seven months of 2012/13 and 52 percent of that came from fuel and automobiles alone.



The office mobilized revenue worth Rs 23.18 billion from fuel and automobiles during the review period. [break]



“Vehicle imports have increased in the review period compared to the figures of same period last year,” said Laxman Shrestha, information officer at Birgunj Customs Office.



According to the office, the revenue collected during the review period is 22 percent higher than the amount mobilized in the same period last fiscal year.



Similarly, imports of vehicles increased during the review period. A total of 5,301 vehicles were imported in the first seven months of current fiscal year, up from 3,987 imported in the corresponding period of last fiscal year.
