Resolution discussed in National Assembly to end discrimination against Dalits

KATHMANDU, March 22: A resolution proposal has been discussed in the National Assembly to ensure social justice by ending discrimination against and oppression of the Dalit community.

KATHMANDU, March 22: A resolution proposal has been discussed in the National Assembly to ensure social justice by ending discrimination against and oppression of the Dalit community.


National Assembly member Bhuwan Sunar proposed and Suresh Ale, Gopi Achhami, Tulprasad Bishwakarma, Narpati Luhar, Jagat Bahadur Parki, Singh Bahadur Bishwakarma and other MPs supported the resolution.

In the resolution proposal, according to the provisions of the constitution and law, untouchability and discrimination in private or public places are considered serious social crimes and strict action should be taken against the culprits and compensation is demanded for the victims.


It has also been demanded to correct the derogatory names and surnames of the Dalit community in passports, citizenship certificates and government documents and to compensate the person concerned for the physical and mental pain and loss of progress.


It has also been demanded to ensure proportional participation of the Dalit community in all agencies and structures of the state, and to arrange scholarships for the students of the Dalit community with priority for their higher education.


Similarly, it has been demanded to provide land to the landless, Dalit community and to implement the system of providing housing to the homeless Dalits.


Presenting the resolution, National Assembly member Bhuwan Sunar said that the National Assembly should also direct the government to monitor whether or not the government has implemented the legal provisions to punish those who behave abusively with members of the Dalit community.
