Republica Morning Brief

Ang Rita Sherpa, also known as Himchituwa, died at 72 on Monday. He successfully climbed Sagarmatha 10 times, and holds a Guinness Book of World Records for climbing Sagarmatha the most times without Oxygen. A native of Solukhumbu, Ang Rita was a giant of Nepali mountaineering.

  • Energy Minister Barsha Man Pun has asked people to call his secretariat if there is power outage without prior notice. The Ministry has asked people to call 1151 or 9851109835 if there is disruption in power supply without a prior notice.




  • A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court demanding its ruling to bar Vice Chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Bam Dev Gautam from assuming a ministerial portfolio. Senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi filed the writ petition on Monday, arguing that it was against the constitutional provisions to appoint someone defeated in the parliamentary election to give a cabinet berth. In the writ petition, Tripathi has also sought the apex court order to bar Gautam from working in the capacity of lawmaker. A hearing on the writ petition has been scheduled for Wednesday, according to Tripathi.
