The Reporters Club, Nepal, awarded Dhakal for his contribution in the field of journalism for almost two decades. The award carries a purse of Rs 100,001 and a copper plaque.
Likewise, Kiran Pokharel of Annapurna Post was awarded Tarani Prasad Memorial Journalism Award; Subha Shankar Kandel of ABC Television, Krishnasen Ichchhuk Journalism Award; Shaligram Tiwari of Kantipur daily, Babu Chhiri Memorial Photojournalism Award; and Babita Basnet of Ghatana Ra Bichar weekly, Uma Singh Memorial Journalism Award.
The program was also attended by Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.
