KATHMANDU, Jan 22: The Legislature-Parliament Environment Committee has approved the report on the National Park and Wildlife Protection (fifth amendment) Bill, 2073 B.S.
The proposed bill gives more rights to the people of the buffer zone in the local resources, which is expected to contribute to wildlife conservation. The works related to the management and protection of the buffer zone will be carried out by the Department of National Park and Wildlife Protection in consultation with the concerned users committee.
It also recommends a fine of Rs 20 to 50,000 or imprisonment of one year or both for those found guilty in poaching of wildlife. The bill however does not talk about the compensation to be provided to the loss incurred by the locals to their crops from the wildlife in the protected and conserved areas. RSS
