NEPALGUNJ, October 22: A road connecting Kohalpur to Jamunaha on the Indo-Nepal border has been damaged while repair works are still on. Locals there have been staging protests claiming low quality materials were used for repair works, which began in May this year.

The 23 km road linking Jamunaha-Kohalpur and Rajha Chowk to airport, which was built seven years ago, has become non-operational at three different places as a result. [break]The blacktopped road has been damaged at Ganeshmanchok, Karkado and Hawaldarpur.

Ramesh Sharma, a local claimed the road was damaged while it was being repaired due to the use of sub-standard materials. “If a blacktopped road constructed seven years ago lasts till now, how can a road whose maintenance began three months ago get damaged?” Sharma questioned.

Repair works along the road began after Road division-3, Nepalgunj and Regional Road Directorate, Surkhet allocated around Rs 300 million for the purpose. However, repair works has come to a halt after it couldn´t be completed within three months, the deadline set for the work.

“Since we have to repair the road, we´ve extended the deadline,” Hom Bahadur AC, engineer at Road Division, Nepalgunj, said.

AC blamed lack of a proper sewage system and disorganized construction for the road damage.
