The NHRC said shifting locals from these areas has become urgent because various parts of the three districts have become uninhabitable as wide cracks have developed on the land and there is higher likelihood of landslides during the upcoming monsoon.
After a field study of various villages in the districts, a team of the commission led by NHRC member Govinda Paudyal concluded that people from Parapcha and Harkapur of Okhaldhunga, Khimti and Bhuji of Ramechhap need to be relocated to safer areas."The commission has concluded that people in these areas are at risk as massive landslides could occur during monsoon," said a statement issued by the NHRC on Friday.
Most of the houses in the villages have been badly destroyed by the earthquake and villagers have been staying under open sky as the government failed to provide them even tents and tarpaulins in the rural areas.
Accusing the concerned authorities of failing to provide relief materials and starting rehabilitation of the displaced people, the commission has suggested to the government to immediately arrange helicopters to supply relief goods in remote parts of the districts.
During the monitoring, they also found that some buildings of health offices that need to provide emergency health services have been destroyed and patients were being treated under tents.
Similarly, prison buildings in Okhaldhunga and Ramechhap have collapsed injuring security personnel and inmates. "The government therefore needs to find new building to keep the inmates immediately," the commission said.
