RAUTAHAT, Jan 3: Relatives of an inmate who died on Friday night in Rautahat District Jail have claimed that the delay by the jail authorities to take him to a hospital led to his death.

Shesh Mubarak, 58, a local of Akolowa-8 who was serving a life term after being convicted of murdering his brother Shekh Ghafar and his wife Sahnaaz Begam was a patient of asthma and high blood pressure. Mubarak's wife, Sagira Khutan accused the district prison of not taking him to the hospital despite repeated requests for medical attention.
However, the doctor deployed at the district jail claimed that Mubarak was taken to the district hospital, where the doctors who saw him referred him to a better hospital. "We had taken him to the district hospital five days ago. And he was referred to another hospital for further treatment," said Dr Madan Das.Meanwhile, the jail authority has assured the family of a fair investigation into Mubarak's death. "Whoever is found responsible for delaying the treatment will be punished," said Narhari Baral, the chief district officer. Mubarak had been serving the jail term since August 12, 2012 after he was found guilty of murdering his brother and his wife over property dispute.
