Rejoicing in the power of music

KATHMANDU, June 21: Celebrating different genres of music on International Music Day, the garden area of Alliance Française Kathmandu in Tripureshwar came alive on Sunday afternoon. Organized in partnership with Tuborg, the event Fête de la Musique or International Music Day saw musical performances of different genres like classic and contemporary rock, English and Hindi songs, pop music, folk music, indie rock and instrumental played by bands like Kutumba and Kramasha.

Popular band Kutumba enthralled the audience with its fusion of Nepali and Newari folk music.Started in 1982 in France, Fête de la Musique is now celebrated all over the world in more than 100 countries. Celebrating the beauty and spirit of music, the event encourages participation of all musicians and all kinds of musical genres.

World Music Day on June 20 was also celebrated with a fundraising event, 'Pray for Nepal: Let the Good Time Roll', at the ground of St Xavier's School in Jawalakhel. Despite the rains on Saturday, popular bands like 1974 AD, Robin and The New Revolution, Cobweb, Mukti and Revival, Joint Family Internationale, and Hari Maharjan Project, among others, performed for their fans.
