KATHMANDU, Oct 14: The stagnated reinstatement of suspended body of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has been boosted by rekindled process of withdrawing the pending court-case from the Supreme Court, according to a press release by the Vice-president of the CAN Diwakar Ghale on Saturday.
“We are discussing on the laws and behavioral steps to withdraw the pending court-case from the Supreme Court,” said Ghale. “We will be conducting a board meeting of the elected body of the CAN on October 27 to decide on the issue and most probably agree to move on the positive direction,” he added.
As directed by the ICC previously, the CAN should submit the evidence of the withdrawal of the outstanding court-cases, and a schedule of the proposed provincial and central elections including a copy of the minutes of its Special General Assembly to the ICC.

Since the International Cricket Council (ICC) has also shown immense significance, the reinstating of the CAN is in the final stages, according to Ghale. “We talked and discussed with all the stakeholders as well as members of monitoring body and the ICC. They all are very interested in process to move forward,” said the president of the Kathmandu District Cricket Association (KDCA).
A five-member ‘Independent Panel’ (monitoring committee) was formed in September for the reinstatement of the CAN, the body that was suspended in 2016.
Former captain of the Nepal national cricket team Lekh Bahadur Chhetri and a KDCA representative Thakur Pratap Thapa are coordinating with the ICC’s representatives: Muhammad Ali Aslam (ICC Head of Internal Audit), Ammar Shaikh (ICC Senior Manager– Strategic Projects) and Niteesha Kothari (ICC Finance & Operations Officer – Asia). The association had adopted the revised constitution at its Special General Assembly on April 19. The revised statute has already been endorsed by the National Sports Council (NSC).
A step-by-step formation of the district working committees, the provincial working committees, and a central working committee is to be done as per the reinstatement process. Only the representatives selected through this process will be eligible to be the office bearers of the CAN.
One of such factors is an official statement from the NSC about the dissolution of the ad-hoc committee of the CAN, which was formed two years ago parallel to the elected body of the CAN.
