KATHMANDU, Jan 6: The All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), the student wing close to Dahal-Nepal faction of Nepal Communist Party (NCP), took to the streets with lanterns in their hands demanding reinstatement of the lower house of parliament on Wednesday.

Following the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari at the recommendation of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, protests and demonstrations against the government move have erupted across the nation.

The agitating students carried lanterns, giving a symbolic message that they could not find any Articles in the Constitution of Nepal that allows Prime Minister Oli to dissolve HoR. The rally was organized as the Supreme Court was conducting hearings on 13 different writ petitions filed against the move of Prime Minister Oli to dissolve the parliament.

All eyes are on the apex court as the political course of the country is largely determined by the verdict that the country’s top court will deliver. The Supreme Court on Wednesday put off the hearing on writ petitions filed against the house dissolution for January 13 after one of the five justices of the Constitutional Bench announced to stay out of it.
