KATHMANDU, Nov 5: Central member of the Nepali Congress (NC), Pradip Paudel, has claimed that if the party reforms and adopts clear policy positions ahead of the upcoming elections, the public will once again place their trust in it.

Speaking on Wednesday during Nagarik News’ digital program Frontline, Paudel said the party must take heed of the warning signaled by the recent Gen Z youth movement and use this opportunity for soul searching and corrective measures.

He emphasized that NC needs to acknowledge past mistakes and adopt a clear stance on issues like corruption control and good governance when engaging with the electorate.

“Being in power, we made mistakes, but we also did some good work,” Paudel said, “However, our achievements were overshadowed because we could not clearly communicate our stance on corruption. This created a perception that all we did was wrong.”

Paudel added that for the party to regain public trust, it must be willing to conduct internal investigations and demonstrate concrete commitments to good governance. “If we acknowledge our shortcomings and are clear on key issues, the people will trust us again,” he said.

He further noted that entering elections without addressing key matters such as governance, constitutional amendments, corruption elimination, and good governance would not secure public support.

According to Paudel, the party should clarify all these issues through a general convention and elect new leadership to strengthen its position and avoid being on the defensive.

He said, “Even now, if we truly reform and take corrective measures, the people will trust us again. The warning has been given, and we must accept it.”
