BIRENDRANAGAR, Jan 20: A girl from Raute community, who was taken ill for a month, has died. Durga Shahi, a 12-year-old Raute girl, died on Thursday night in Raute settlement.
With the increasing cold, the members of the Raute community have started to suffer from various health problems. Children and the elderly are at increased risk as they have to sleep on the cold floor. It is said that the girl died due to lack of treatment. Lal Bahadur Khatri, an employee working in the route project, said that after learning that Durga was ill, she died on Thursday night after asking her to pay attention to her treatment and food.
Integrated policy to be introduced for Raute Community
"By taking the medicine, she started to become healthy," an employee associated with the Route project said that the girl may have died due to eating disorders during Maghe Sankranti. “On Friday morning, we came to know that the girl died while going to the settlement area.”
In recent years, the population of the Raute community has been decreasing. At present, the number of Rautes is 137, of which 65 are children. The Rautes, who were living in Gad Jiula of Bhairavi Rural Municipality-4 of Dailekh, migrated to Chamunda Indrayani Municipality-4 Suiyatada on Friday after the death of the girl.
