KATHMANDU, March 3: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the ratification of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact Agreement through parliament has helped to enhance Nepal's credibility in the international arena.

Addressing the meeting of the coalition partners held at his official residence in Baluwatar on Thursday, Prime Minister Deuba also thanked the coalition partners for their support to endorse the MCC grant agreement, according to Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki.

Prime Minister Deuba, who is also the president of Nepali Congress, expressed his happiness saying that the MCC grant agreement was ratified through parliament even as there were internal disputes within each ruling party. Cadres of a section of ruling parties had even staged street protests when the MCC grant agreement was tabled in parliament for ratification.

Minister Karki, who is also the government's spokesperson, said the ruling coalition had been further strengthened following the ratification of the MCC grant agreement.

"Nepal's credibility in the international arena has increased following the ratification of the MCC grant agreement. We will stand together to make sure that the budget allocated for the MCC projects does not get frozen by ensuring the completion of MCC projects within five years," said Karki. "A 315-kilometer long transmission line will be developed under MCC. Similarly, roads of international standard will also be constructed. We will not let these projects face the fate of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project."
