Rated players start with wins in chess

KATHMANDU, June 20 : Rated players started with wins in the Third Madan Memorial Youth Rated Chess Tournament on Saturday. National champion Badri Lal Nepali, Nepal´s only FIDE Master Manish Hamal, former champion Keshav Shrestha, Survir Lama and Punyaman Bajracharya started with wins against their respective opponents in the tournament being held at the Staff Collage, Jawalakhel in Lalitpur.



Badrilal defeated Shivaraj Joshi, Manish defeated Subarnaram Joshi, Keshav beat Sangita Jaisawal, Survir beat Raj Kumar KC and Punyaman defeated Dinanath Kafle in the opening round of the tournament.



Likewise, Rabindra Shakya, Siromani Bajracharya, Ratna Byanjankar, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Sujendra Prasad Shrestha, Prem Krishna Shrestha, Shyam Shrestha, Brijendra Rajbhandari and R. Bajracharya also won the opening round.



CPN-UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal inaugurated the tournament. Democratic National Youth Federation, youth wing of the UML, organized the tournament in which 140 players from 40 districts are participating.
