GALESHWOR, April 20:  A King Cobra has been found in a house at Ghatan, Beni Municipality-9 in Myagdi district. The rare cobra was sighted on the porch at the house of Tek Bahadur Khadka on Wednesday evening.

A crowd of people had assembled at Khadka's house to see the rare snake, said Chakra Bahadur KC, a local of Ghatan.

Keshav Chokhal, who has been conducting study and research on birds and wildlife for the last nine years, confirmed that the cobra found at Khadka's house is a rare King Cobra. Chokhal has completed Masters in Zoology from Tribhuvan University.

Chokhal said he had also spotted a similar type of cobra in the forest at Koshipani in Ghatan in May 2020. According to him, the King Cobra, considered a very rare snake in Nepal, is being seen sporadically in the mid-hill region of the country in recent years.

He said the government and the community both should take measures to protect this species of cobra.
