Making public the details of crimes in 2071/072, SSP Uttam Karki, chief of the Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, said, "Despite our all-out attempts, crimes such as rape, banking fraud and murder attempts increased in the fiscal year."
Of the 4,601 cases registered at the Metropolitan Police, Kathmandu in the fiscal year, 94 were related to attempted murder, 93 to rape and 18 related to banking fraud. In the fiscal year 2070/071, the number of cases related to attempted murder was 85, rape 84 and banking fraud 10.
Number of such cases appears to have increased also because more people are reporting such cases. The office said cases of murder, fraud, human trafficking, kidnap and hostage taking, drug trafficking and drug abuse and robbery, however, have seen a decline.
Police also recovered eight motorbikes, 156 mobile phones, 57 laptops, 16 television sets and jewelry stolen during the fiscal year 2071/072.
Of the total missing in the fiscal year, six boys, 11 girls, 120 women and 73 men have yet to be found. According to the police, 26 boys, 60 girls, 347 women and 263 men went missing from Kathmandu district in the fiscal year.
Metropolitan Police Range Office Kathmandu also highlighted the progress in crime profiling for the future reference. "If we are provided with some advance software, crime investigation would be faster and accurate," said SSP Karki.
