On the same occasion, Shrestha also said that Nepal would send athletes of selected sports in the Asian Games on the basis of medal winning potentials.

“In the last two editions of the Asian Games, we were limited to just bronze medals despite sending big teams of athletes of different sports,” said Shrestha. “So, from this time we will take part in only those events where we have the probability of winning medals.”

“We are very clear that Nepal will not participate in the Asian Games for sake of participation only. This time we will analyze the past successes, and select the sports accordingly with the coordination of government and National Sports Council,” Shrestha added.

He also claimed that preparations for the Asian Games will be started soon. “Our preparations for Asian Games will begin shortly after the conclusion of the national elections. We are already in talks with countries such as Japan, Russia, Qatar, Thailand, South Korea, and China in order to send our players for training,” added Shrestha who is an electoral candidate for central parliament from Kathmandu constituency-8 in the upcoming election.

He also claimed that he will work on the formulation of national sports policy and the construction of Sports Academy in Gauritar of Hetauda if elected as member of the parliament.
