Rajkarnikar supports Murarka, Rana also expected to withdraw

KATHMANDU, July 1: Acting president Pashupati Murarka looks likely to be the new president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) after senior vice president Bhaskar Raj Rajkarnikar pulled out of the federation presidential race and the other candidate -- Bhawani Rana -- is expected to withdraw her candidacy on Wednesday.

Rajkarnikar announced his decision to withdraw from the race organizing a press meet on Tuesday" "FNCCI president has to be elected through consensu"," Rajkarnikar said, adding" "My decision will pave the way to elect new president on consensus basi"."

Rajkarnikar also threw his weight behind Murarka.Murarka, Rajkarnikar and Rana had announced their candidacy for the post after the then President Pradeep Jung Pandey was removed from the post on March 18 in connection to a three-decade-long corruption case. The federation is holding election for the new president on June 3.

The new FNCCI president will get tenure of 21 months.

Welcoming Rajkarnikar's decision, Murarka told Republica that the decision would create an environment for consensus" "I am hopeful that there will be another positive development on Wednesday," he said referring to another presidential candidate Rana.

Dinesh Shrestha, a close ally of Rana, said that there are chances of electing new president unanimously. "We are holding talks to forge consensus and are hopeful that it will lead to fruition," said Shrestha.

It has been learnt that Rana was prepared to hold a press meet on Tuesday itself.

Meanwhile, Rana is holding a press meet on Wednesday. "The new president has to be elected unanimously as far as possible," Rana had told Republica on Monday.

Murarka said that he would put efforts for consensus till the end.
