KATHMANDU, Aug 9: Rain, landslides, road subsidence and erosion have disrupted traffic on roads and highways in several parts of the country.
According to a road disruption update issued by Nepal Police Headquarters at 5:45 am on Sunday, traffic has been affected along the Mid Hill Highway in Tehrathum, the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok, the Mechi Highway in Ilam, the Trishuli Mailung Syafrubesi road in Rasuwa and the Bheri Corridor in Rukum West, among other routes.
On the BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, all types of vehicles have been banned from operating between 6 pm and 4 am on the Khurkot Nepalthok Katunje Bensi section due to the potential risk of flooding. Vehicles are allowed to operate between 4 am and 6 pm.

Similarly, all vehicles have been barred from using the Kanti Lokpath in Makwanpur between 5 pm and 5 am during the monsoon season.
The Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality, Ward 9, has been completely blocked after rain turned the road muddy and impassable. Police said an alternative route is available.
Several sections of the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok have also been completely blocked following landslides and road subsidence in Jiro Kilo of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Ward 4, and in Kodari and Liping of Ward 2.
Traffic has been halted after a landslide blocked the road at Jiro Kilo and the road subsided at Liping. Another section of the Araniko Highway at Dumre in Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality, Ward 9, has also been obstructed.
The Trishuli Mailung Syafrubesi road has been completely blocked at Khalte in Uttargaya Rural Municipality, Ward 5, Rasuwa, after erosion damaged the road.
Likewise, the Jajarkot Dolpa section of the Bheri Corridor at Rijegard Khola in Aathbiskot Municipality, Ward 6, Rukum West, has been completely blocked by a landslide.
The Mid Hill Highway near Pingwa Khola in Kande, Laligurans Municipality, Ward 9, Tehrathum, has also been completely blocked following a landslide.
Police have urged travellers to check the latest road conditions with the relevant authorities before starting their journey, warning that the risk of landslides, floods and road erosion remains high during the monsoon season.
