KATHMANDU, Sept 22: The government of Qatar has introduced the policy of issuing Permanent Residency (PR) cards to the foreign nationals living in Qatar.

Foreign nationals who were born outside Qatar but are living in Qatar for 20 years and foreign nationals born in Qatar and living there for 10 years can apply for PR.

“If a Nepali has lived in Qatar for 20 years, or his/her children born in Qatar are living there for 10 years, they will be entitled to Qatari PR according to the new policy,” informed Ambassador of Qatar to Nepal, Yousuf Bin Mohammed Al-Hail. “The cardholder will have the right to invest in the activities of the national economy sectors without a Qatari partner,” he said. “The cardholder may also own real estate for housing and investment.”

When asked why the new policy was introduced, Al-Hail said that this is in recognition of the fact that foreign workers in Qatar have contributed a lot for the development of Qatar, even during the blockade, and the state needs to accord them the respect they deserve. The state of Qatar is under the blockade imposed by its Arab neighbors Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt since June 2017.
