“I briefed the leaders of 27 parties separately about the talks I held with the prime minister and the leaders of major three political parties and told them that I found the leaders very serious during the meeting. So, let us put pressure on the major three parties for the cause of peace and constitution,” Nembang told journalists at Singha Durbar after Wednesday´s meeting.
In recent days, Nembang has been meeting the top leaders of political parties to urge them to expedite the task of constitution writing and peace process as there has been no progress on both fronts after the recent three months extension of the term of the Constituent Assembly.
The speaker has already met Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prime Minister Dr Baburam Battarai, NC President Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal.
After the meeting, Nembang told journalists that he stressed on the need of holding continuous talks to resolve contentious issues as constitution writing would not move ahead until there is a tangible progress in peace process.
The speaker said the meetings he held with the top leaders of various political parties during the Dashain festival have given him some hope. Nembang said the leaders stated that they would work seriously as there was only a short time left for completing the twin tasks of peace process and constitution writing.
“Earlier, the leaders gave contradictory statements. But this time they seemed to be unanimous,” stated Nembang. He said that even the opposition parties have assured him of their constructive role in concluding the peace process and constitution writing.
