Public Accounts Committee to settle complaints within 15 days

KATHMANDU, March 21: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the House of Representatives has decided to investigate 48 complaints and conclude it within 15 days.

"The committee secretariat will seek feedback from the concerned authorities regarding all the complaints within seven days and the complaints will be settled within 15 days,” he said.

Among the complaints selected by the committee, six are related to Nepal Telecom, five are related to the Securities Board of Nepal  and six are related to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Lumbini Development Trust and Nepal Airlines Corporation under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.


Similarly, other complaints selected by the committee for study are related to Nepal Scouts, Nepal Television, Department of Foreign Employment, Ministry of Finance, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), crusher industries, Nepal Electricity Authority, mobile banking, Nepal Telecommunications Authority, the Department of Health Services, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Sports Council and the Ministry of Urban Development.


There are also complaints related to the return of government land, purchase of SIM locators of the Central Bureau of Investigation, insurance and gravelling of roads.


A sub-committee formed under the coordination of committee member Sanjay Kumar Gautam had recommended investigation into only 48 out of the 100 complaints received since the formation of the committee on April 28, 2023.


According to the sub-committee members, among the remaining 52 complaints, some are being investigated by the CIAA, some cases are sub judice in courts and the allegations made in some of the complaints are motivated only by prejudices while some of the complaints do not fall within the purview of the committee.


The meeting also directed the task force to submit its report within the next 15 days about the alleged irregularities in the construction of Pokhara and Bhairahawa airports.
