KATHMANDU, March 1: A protest has erupted outside the state assembly of Province 1 after it was proposed to rename the province as Koshi Province.
The proposal to change the name of Province 1 to Koshi Province was approved for discussion in the state assembly meeting held today. The proposal named Kirat Limbuwan Sagarmatha was rejected by the state assembly.
Welcome to Federal Nepal, Koshi!
Similarly, the Unified Samajwadi Party's proposal to name the province as Kirat Limbuwan Sagarmatha was supported by Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP). Out of the seven provinces in the country, only one province is yet to get a proper name. It took almost five years for the state assembly to endorse the new name of the province.
Anticipating that there may be protests before and after the naming of the province, the District Administration Office, Morang has prohibited mass assembly and processions around the provincial assembly secretariat, the chief minister's residence, the office of the council of ministers and the district administration office in Morang after three o'clock today.
