KATHMANDU, March 1: Majority of the members of the provincial assembly have approved the name of Province 1 as ‘Koshi’ for discussions. Similarly, the proposal to name the province as ‘Kirant-Limbuwan-Sagarmatha’ was rejected after discussions in the provincial assembly.
The provincial assembly has approved the proposal of UML provincial assembly member Ram Bahadur Rana Magar to hold discussions on naming the province as Koshi. Currently, the provincial assembly is holding a discussion on Koshi as the name of the province. After the discussion, the assembly is expected to hold voting on the proposal.

UML province assembly member Ram Rana Magar filed a proposal to name Province 1 as ‘Koshi’. Bhumi Prasad Rajbansi of Nepali Congress is among the supporters of the proposal.
After the majority of the provincial assembly accepted ‘Koshi’ as the name of the province for discussion, Speaker Baburam Gautam said that the proposal to name the province as Kirant-Limbuwan-Sagarmatha was rejected.
Earlier, the province was proposed to be named ‘Kirat-Limbuwan-Sagarmatha’ by Provincial Assembly member Rajendra Rai secretariat on behalf of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP).
