Concluding that the construction work would not be completed by mid-July, the monitoring team led by Secretary at the Prime Minister´s Office Krishna Hari Banskota directed the responsible authorities on Saturday to put pressure on the contractors to complete at least gravelling and footpath construction.
Of the total 200 road sections marked for expansion works, the contractors have completed blaktopping only 20 km and laid gravels on 40 km road. Expressing dissatisfaction over the slow pace, Secretary Banskota sought answers from the officials of the Department of Road on the spot.
The contractors have not completed even one third of the committed work though they assured to blacktop 60 km road till mid-July, he added. The monitoring team also directed the concerned authorities to manage all the cables lying along the road sides as they make pedestrians vulnerable to accidents.
Earlier on the day, the monitoring team visited Lazimpat-Buddhanilkantha road section, where the government has divided five sub road sections. The team also observed 600 meter long road expansion at Maligaun. Eight meter wide road section with footpath on only one side was also to be completed in 15 days. However, the construction materials were lying on the road carelessly. The team directed the Kathmandu Valley Road Improvement Project to store construction materials at proper place by Tuesday.
