But as night falls, it brings its own share of problems. These days, we have it in the form of mosquitoes. And not just any mosquitoes! These are big ones which seem to be breeding and attacking us by millions every second! Is it just us, or does every Kathmanduite thinks that the mosquitoes have become invulnerable to the weapons we throw at them?[break]
Well, how do you deal with such menaces in today’s time?
Most people seem to favor the electric bat as the perfect solution to the errant mosquitoes.
Angila Sharma writes on our Facebook page: “It’s really annoying to have mosquitoes around. So I use the electric bat. And if I’m still troubled by mosquitoes, then I cover myself with blankets and concentrate on my dreams. Those irritating creatures shouldn’t ruin my dreamland.”

Agreeing with Angila is Prabin Aryal, 23, a student of Bachelor’s in Business Studies at Universal College. He says, “Nowadays, mosquito repellant coils and solutions don’t work because I think mosquitoes have grown immune to it. So the best solution is to use electric bats. It’s also a fun activity. When it’s time to hit the bed, I think one should use mosquito nets.”
And like many of us who use anything available in the market to fight off the mosquitoes, Shesh Mani Dahal, 21, a Chartered Accountancy student, uses both the liquid solution and the net.
He says, “I had stopped using the liquid solution as it affected my health. I found it hard to breathe and my throat felt very dry in the morning. So I started using the net, but then the mosquitoes continued to bite me every time my hands and legs touched the net. It was then that I got the idea of using both the net and the liquid at the same time. I just make sure that I sleep far away from the liquid solution. Now there’s no possibility of any mosquito attack or negative impact on my health.”
For Sushant Thapa, the mosquitoes are harder to escape. Not their venomous bites but their more painful sounds.
A student of Bachelor’s in Business Studies at Nesfield International College, Sushant explains, “I just hate mosquitoes, and the sound that they make irritates me the most. For me, it’s more painful than the pain I get from their sting. Rather than use the liquid solution, coils, sprays and pastes, I use mosquito net to deal with them. I prefer it as it is completely harmless and has no side effects. But the most annoying part is that I have to tolerate the terrible sound made by them. For which I have no solution.”
Mosquitoes surely have started ruling our nights, terrifying us one way or another.
But like Ayush Dhungel shares on our Facebook page, “It’s liquid mosquito repellent and electric rackets during the night.” And I also use my palms to smash them.”
Maybe, that’s what we ought to do, too, with those pesky mosquitoes that persist.
