The committee´s directive was issued following a comprehensive discussion with CIAA Secretary Bhagwati Kafle and other officials regarding the transfer of state-owned land (the UN Park) by former commissioners -- Acting Chief Lalit Bahadur Limbu and Commissioner Ved Prakash Sibakoti -- in the name of individuals.[break]
On March 31, the apex court, issuing a landmark judicial stricture, had ordered the Parliament Secretariat, the SAC the CIAA to immediately investigate and take action against the two former commissioners.
The apex court had concluded that Limbu and Sivakoti misinterpreted a court order and ordered land revenue officials to transfer ownership of government land in the name of individuals. Overstepping their jurisdiction, the duo on Paush 17, 2066 BS decided to register two ropanis and three annas of government-owned land located behind Maternity
Hospital at Thapathali in the names of Kanchhi Tandukar and Purna Bahadur Tandukar.
The committee and lawmakers had also inquired Secretary Kafle if he had any involvement in the land transfer. Kafle clarified that he had not made any recommendations but only forwarded the file regarding land transfer.
The committee has also directed the CIAA to provide it with regular updates on the progress in probe.
Expedite Sudan probe
The committee also directed the CIAA to conclude probe on Sudan scam without any delay. SAC Chairman Ram Nath Dhakal at the meeting said it has become urgent to resolve the matter as the issue has a direct impact on security situation.
“It may give a wrong message to the security organization and the police top brass might face difficulties in maintaining order. Therefore the CIAA must take this issue to a logical end at the earliest,” said Dhakal. CIAA Secretary Kafle informed the lawmakers that the investigation is near completion and that the commission would come up with a result soon.
