KATHMANDU, Aug 3: The Medical Education Probe Commission 2017 has summoned the former Nepal Medical Council (NMC) officials, who were involved in increasing the enrolment quota at medical colleges, for further investigation.
A meeting of the commission held on Thursday decided to call 20 former NMC officials including its former chairman, registrar, and members.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, Gauri Bahadur Karki, chairman of the probe panel, has summoned former NMC chair Dr Damodar Gajurel, former vice-chairman Dr AE Ansari, former members Dr Anil Kumar Jha, Dr Anjani Kumar Jha, Dr Ankur Shah, Dr Bishwo Raj Dawadi, Dr Dev Narayan Shah, Dr Ganesh Gurung, Dr Hirendra Man Pradhan, Dr Kul Deep Goit, Dr Manohar Pradhan, Dr Narendra Bahadur Rana, Dr Niraj Pant, Dr Prakash Bhattari, Dr Ramesh Prasad Singh, Dr Roshan Piya, Dr Satish Kumar Deo, Dr Shivaji Paudel, Dr Sudin Shakya and registrar Dr Nil Mani Upadhyaya.
According to the Nepal Medical Council Act, the council determines the seats of medical colleges by monitoring the colleges before the beginning of the new academic session.
Similarly, the probe commission has also called the eight specialists assigned by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority to conduct the medical entrance exam pf postgraduate level at Kathmandu University a year ago.
Those specialists are Dr Sashi Sharma, Dr Subodh Adhikari, Dr Nilmani Upadhyaya, Dr Rishikesh Narayan Shrestha, Dr Saroj Shrestha, Dr Suprabhat Shrestha, Dr Hira Tuladhar and Dr Prakash Dangol.
