Priyadarshan spoils the broth

Priyadarshan spoils the broth

Whenever it’s Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar together, the expectations are obviously huge.

Priyadarshan’s films with Akshay Kumar like Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhool Bhulaiya and Bhagam Bhag are still considered to be one of the finest comedies from the Bollywood assembly line. But since Priyadarshan’s De Dana Dan, it seems Akshay Kumar no more remains the director’s lucky mascot.[break]

While many of Akshay Kumar’s fans were expecting Khatta Meetha, Priyadarshan’s recent release, to be seriously funny, the film is nothing but worst script ever jumbled up together with a bad screenplay, ugly songs and poor cinematography, which gives you a serious migraine by the end.

Remake of a Malayalam film Vellanakalude Nadu (1988), Khatta Meetha is neither entertaining nor a sensible film and not even funny like many expected it to be.

If you’re wondering about side-splitting antics in the movie, trust me, it’s only the promos that give you some tickle. And if you’re planning to hit the turnstiles, I need to be honest – these promos are non-existing elements in this torturous three-hour roller-coaster ride.

Sachin Tichkule (Akshay Kumar) is a road contractor who almost every time lands up in mess, whenever he tries to do something new and different. Luck has never been by his side ever since he decided to go corrupt. He lives with his two brother-in-laws, a brother, sister and his parents in an extended family. He is often ridiculed by his brothers who are also into the same line of work. Nonetheless, he feels helpless when it comes to going against them as he hasn’t been contributing anything to his family.

Newcomer Trisha is a municipality commissioner, and coincidentally Sachin’s ex-girlfriend. Once lovers, they pick up battle between the truth and the line of corruption. In the meantime, the brothers and in-laws have their own side of story. The political nexus going around the family, the corruptive line progressing at its place, unsuitable romances in between, political tensions, and few ugly songs keep the movie stretching till it comes to a very predictable ending. Priyadarshan seriously needs to realize this that too much of ingredients spoil the broth.

Priyadarshan’s Hera Pheri days are over now as the director has completely forgotten the reality that one cannot force the audience to laugh. Loud and plastic acting with cheesy stupid lines and weird expressions don’t combine together to define comedy.

Surprisingly even a music composer like Pritam has failed badly in making the songs sound pleasant to ears. The soundtracks don’t even fit into the cinema. The cinematography is a travesty of the art. Akshay Kumar is intolerably loud. Newbie Trisha really has very less to do. Raj Pal Yadav and Johnny Lever are not at all funny.

Simply, avoidable.
