Pritam and his love for cell phones

In 2002, when Pritam Purkayastha, Manager Trade Marketing at United Spirits Nepal Private Limited, was enrolling in MBA in Orissa, India, all that he ever dreamt of was having his own cell phone.

“Back then, to own a cell phone was really a big deal. And when I finally got one during my MBA, it was like a dream come true,” Pritam enunciated his first encounter with a proper gadget in his life. “It was a secondhand Bosch mobile that I bought for 5,000 Indian Rupees.”[break]

Though the Bosch mobile was the first gadget Pritam purchased in his life, this was however not the first gadget that he used. Like many of us were fond of it at one time in life, Pritam was also in love with his Nintendo video game.

“During my college days, I and a bunch of other people of my age desperately wanted a cell phone, not because they were too much into technology but because they truly wanted to show off. I was no exception,” he explained and added, “It was Indian Rupees 12 for incoming calls and 25 for outgoing.

Nonetheless, I used to leave no space to keep my cell phones working to make sure that I was the sought-after guy among my friends.”

As soon as Pritam completed his post-graduation, he joined Nestle and was earning handsomely to purchase the gadgets he always wanted to have. His only obsession became cell phones and soon he started changing his phone set every six months.

“I was single then, and because my dad was still working, I didn’t have obligations to support my family financially. I could do anything I wanted to from what I earned. I started buying cell phones crazily,” he shared.

So far, Pritam has tried his hands at most of the models of Nokia, Motorazer. A complete mobile freak, as he likes to call himself, he hasn’t spared iPhone and Blackberry, either. Irrespective of his love for all cell phones, his commitment, however, has stayed only to Nokia mobile phones.

“The best thing about carrying a Nokia is even if you drop your cell phone for more than three times, you can still use it. Nokia phones are so sturdy and strong.

The touch sensitivity in Nokia phones take you to a different level of touch-screen phones. Besides, they’re so user-friendly,” Pritam highlighted.

Pritam argues that Nokia phones are more user-friendly than iPhone and Blackberry. He’s currently using a Nokia N97.

He’s equally in love with his Sony Vaio laptop, which he claims is the most classic-looking laptop among the brands of laptops.

“I wished to buy an iPad too. But the problem with iPad is that other than through Bluetooth and Internet, there’s no way that you can transfer your files,” he informed.

Pritam, who already has an iPod, is now waiting for his new iPod Classic that he has just ordered via a friend.

For future, he’s eyeing to earn a Mac Book 2 and wishes to be soon gifted a Play Station by anyone who loves him the most.
