BHUBANESWAR, May 8: Indian police reported that no complaint has been filed in relation to the death of Nepali student Prisha Shah, who was studying at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

According to a Bhubaneswar police officer investigating her suicide, Prisa's family requested proper investigation and justice, but no formal complaint has been submitted. An Odisha police office source mentioned, "Prisha's father, Shyamlal Sah Kalwar, stated that he had no suspicions, so the Odisha police did not want to cause unnecessary trouble. He left with the death certificate."

Despite the family members returning to Nepal, the Bhubaneswar police are continuing the investigation into Prisha's death. The family took the death certificate and left for Nepal on Tuesday, requesting only an investigation without further discussion. This has left the police in a state of confusion.

The post-mortem report, conducted as part of the fact-finding process, has not revealed any clear cause of death. This lack of clarity has hindered the progress of the investigation, according to the police officer.

SSP (Counselor) Sanjeev Das Sharma of the Nepal Police, stationed at the Nepal Embassy in India, stated on Tuesday morning that the post-mortem report did not indicate any cause of death. SSP Sharma confirmed that the Odisha police were continuing their investigation into Shah’s death.

However, according to sources from the Odisha Police Commissioner’s office, further investigation cannot proceed without forensic reports from the laptop and mobile. "The post-mortem report has arrived. We are still awaiting the forensic lab reports for the laptop and mobile. Once these come in, further investigation will be conducted if any suspicious findings arise," an official from the Odisha Police Commissioner’s office stated.

Prisa, who was studying in KIIT, had two senior Indian roommates. News of her death spread at the university when her roommates returned home. The Bhubaneswar police have also questioned 10 other students but have yet to reach any conclusions. One student stated, "She was even present for class on Thursday afternoon, and then in the evening, the news of her suicide broke." The university is currently conducting exams for various semesters.
