KATHMANDU, Dec 1: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that he was subject to criticisms and ridicule in the past while initiating efforts to facilitate the resettlement of Bhutanese refugees to a third country.
"From a humanitarian perspective, when I initiated efforts to transfer over 100,000 Bhutanese refugees living a difficult life in camps to third countries, I was subjected to various petty remarks," Prime Minister Oli said on Saturday during a meeting with officials of the Intra Foundation at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar.

Prime Minister Oli mentioned that Bhutan exiled Nepali-speaking individuals solely because they were Nepali and noted that Bhutan has now even stopped referring to the Nepali-speaking Bhutanese resettled in third countries as refugees.
However, he said that the Bhutanese resettled in third countries are capable and competent. He expressed confidence that Bhutan will, in the future, call back the citizens it once expelled as skilled human resources.
