The price of soybean cake rose to Rs 44 per kg from Rs 27 per kg. Similarly, the price of molasses almost doubled to Rs 25 per kg while sesame cake, which would cost Rs 21 now costs Rs 24. Likewise the residue of rape seed also soared to Rs 20 per kg from Rs 18 per kg over the past four months.
Feed producers have increased the prices of all varieties of poultry feeds by Re 1 per kg from this week. After the price revision, prices of B1 category, B2 category and B3 category feeds -- which are fed according to the age of the chicken -- increased to Rs 27.70, Rs 27.70 and Rs 26.30 per kg respectively.
“We have no option but to raise the prices of feed as the prices of raw materials have skyrocketed,” said Narayan Hari Khattri, the president of Nepal Feed Industries Association.
More than 100 feed industries are operating across the country. Entrepreneurs said Nepali feed producers produce every day about 1,100 tons of poultry feeds -- which is almost sufficient to fulfill the domestic demand.
