Prez tried to seize state power: Bhattarai

KATHMANDU, April 19: Former prime minister and UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai claimed that President Ram Baran Yadav made four attempts to seize state power during his term at Baluwatar.



Speaking with a select group of media persons at his residence in Sanepa on Friday, Bhattarai claimed that the move was foiled by his government. [break]



He also added that the Constituent Assembly (CA) met an unceremonious demise owing to ignorance of the president.



He defended his decision to announce date of the CA elections saying it was a part of his attempt to foil the president’s attempt to seize state power.



The ex-prime minister further claimed that the president even met Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Gaurav Shumsher to fulfill his wish. The president´s move could not bear fruit as the CoAS refused to cooperate, Bhattarai added.
