Prez to stay put to facilitate statute

JIRI, Dec 11: President Ram Baran Yadav on Saturday said he will not make any trips outside Kathmandu for a month and devote his whole time and energy for peace and constitution drafting process in consultation with political parties.



"Our country faced so many ups and downs in history. It is not the time to fight among ourselves. We must utilize the remaining six months for peace and constitution drafting process," he said while inaugurating the golden jubilee celebration function of the Jiri Higher Secondary School here.[break]



Yadav urged political parties to institutionalize the achievements of the 2006 people´s movement.



"Taking peace process to its positive conclusion and promulgating a new constitution within stipulated timeframe is the main responsibility of the 601 CA members and the political parties," he said, adding, "I urge CA members, major political parties and the government to complete the task of integrating Maoist combatants who fought for the change in the country at the earliest."



The president further said that the people and the entire country want a new constitution. "My responsibility will be fulfilled once I promulgate the new constitution through the Constituent Assembly (CA)," he added.



In his 25-minute speech, the president expressed his concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the country.

 

The president also urged CA and parties not to go for federalism based on geography.
