KATHMANDU, March 24: Press Chautari Nepal has urged the government to take back the 'Online Media Operation Directive- 2073 BS' it issued recently, citing it is capable of controlling over the concept of free press.
The Directive said to be meant for systematising registration, renew and operation of online media incorporates some provisions which are contravention with the concepts of freedom of expression and free press, the Chautari stated.
'The Mass Communication Policy-2073 BS' has the provisions relating to management and monitoring of online media and the promulgation of the Directive is contradictory.
We strongly demand the government to withdraw the Directive brought exercising the authority granted by the Clause 45 of Good Governance (Management and Operation) Act without consulting with the bodies concerned, added the statement issued by Chautari General Secretary Rajesh Rai. RSS
