Presidential Election: 882 electors to represent citizens across the country

KATHMANDU, March 9: In the third presidential election of the country, which is going to be held today, according to the law of Nepal, common people cannot vote. 882 voters will represent the votes of the citizens of the country.

There is a system of voting for the election of the President of Nepal by federal parliamentarians and provincial assembly parliamentarians. 59 people selected and nominated from time to time in elections in the National Assembly will vote in the presidential election. Likewise, 275 MPs elected in the House of Representatives (HoR) will also vote for the election of the president representing the general electorate.

Similarly, a total of 550 provincial members who have been elected in the seven provincial assemblies of Nepal will also vote representing the electorate for the election of the president. Two out of a total of 884 MPs from the House of Representatives, the National Assembly and the Provincial Assembly will not be allowed to participate in the voting to be held today for the election of the third President of Nepal.

Rabi Lamichhane, the chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) elected to the House of Representatives from Chitwan Region No 2, has been dismissed after being found guilty in the citizenship case, while Tek Bahadur Gurung of Nepali Congress, who was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Manang, has been dismissed. The number of votes of the members of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly is 79 and the number of votes of the members of the Provincial Assembly is 48. In this way, the people's representatives elected by the people are representing the common people in the presidential election.
