Nepali Hindus started receiving the tika from their seniors as blessings from the Goddess after the conclusion of the worship of Durga called the Nawadurga Bhawani for nine days, beginning the tika of the great festival of Dashain in each household.[break]
On this very occasion, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav received tika from Guru Purohit Dr. Raghunath Aryal and Shankar Prasad Sigdel at the presidential palace, Thursday morning.
On the occasion, the President also offered tika and jamara to the family members present there, the Office of the President said.
Likewise, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai also received tika and jamara and blessings from father Bhoj Prasad Bhattarai on the auspicious hour.
Tika is the rice grains mixed with red vermillion powder into a paste form by mixing curd which is put on the forehead as auspicious mark and blessings.
Similarly, Jamara is the seedlings of barley grown at specially anointed altar at home that is put behind the ears as the auspicious item of goddess Nawa Durga Bhawani.
President offered tika to public
President Yadav offered tika and jamara to the general public at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas, on the day of Bada Dashain.
At the programme that began at 12:30 midday, President Dr. Yadav gave tika and jamara to Vice President Parmanand Jha at the Koshi Hall.
Similarly, Dr. Yadav also gave tika to Chief of Army Staff Chhatraman Singh Gurung, IGP Rabindra Pratap Saha, army and police personnel, secretaries and other civil servants.
